The first co-founder of Rivers & Forest Expeditions is a native to the Amazonic region and dedicates his efforts to the stabilization and the overall improvement of the region. He was born and raised in a poverty stricken village in the depths of the jungle then ventured out to the capital city, Lima, to pursue an education. After, defying immense odds, Cubas graduated as an accomplished economist & utilized his success to create a company that he knew would bring jobs & stability to his native land.
Upon his return, he arrived to less than remnants as deforestation had destroyed the village of his childhood. Now together with all of the likeminded companies & organizations that are dedicated to the stabilizing of the region, Rivers & Forest Expeditions continues to push forward and progress in reaching higher awareness on the international level.
The Peruvian Conflict: Our luxury cruiseline has had its place in Amazonic history since its first navigation. During the Peruvian & Ecuadorian tension of the 90's, the president of each respective nation had a secluded meeting aboard the Crucero Amazonas that precluded the peace treaty accord signed on October 26, 1998 establishing the end to the border dispute & finally bringing long sought peace to the region.
On the 15th of April 2015, Rivers & Forest Expeditions purchased the ship, now Crucero Amazonas, with the intention of creating the first Luxury Cruise line native to the Amazon region. With a vision of transforming the poverty stricken communities to the protectors of the rainforest, Rivers & Forest Expeditions practices providing financial opprotunities to incentivize the populations to particpate in stabilizing the Amazon rather than continue destroying it.
The Reconstruction: From July of 2015 to July of 2016 the intimate cruise vessel was revenovated to comply with modern standards for luxury service & travel while maintaining the original design of Amazonic tradition. The architect, Sachi Fujimori, preserved the classic traditional wood design of the ship originating from the times of its first discovery by Orellena. Aesthetically pleasing and unique, the reconstruction of the vessel allowed for us to present the widest river in the world in the world within a luxury frame while providing its signature opulent attention.
Grand Opening At the dawn of August 1st, 2017, Rivers & Forest Expeditions officially launched its Luxury River Cruise Vessel, Crucero Amazonas, open to the public. Exclusively navigating through the true Peruvian Amazon River, Crucero Amazonas opts for an intimate & true to nature and raw experience with the wild, catering especially to the experienced traveler that desires a truly unique and memorable encounter with everything the Amazon has to offer.
Global Milestone: Crucero Amazonas was the vessel selected in which the Amazon River was granted hierarchy 4 status, which is a top distinction within the international tourism community, which in Peru only Machu Picchu and Nazca Lines have previously attained. In January of 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and the regional government made the announcement together hosted by the Founder of Rivers & Forest Expeditions and the luxury vessel. The distinction is a classification designed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
A Pandemic: The Covid-19 pandemic surprised us all when it arrived to Iquitos on March 16, 2020 in the middle of an expedition. All of the guests and crew were at first startled by the developing crisis but not daunted by the situation. The navigation continued as safety protocols were being developed and implemented as information was received and fortunately the expedition was successful. Every guest was taken care of as family, as is our standard, and successfully accommodated to a flight back home.
Turning the page: The world has changed immensely and continues to do so. Rivers & Forest Expeditions understands that although the world is changing we need to preserve what we have left of our natural wonder. Therefore we innovate to preserve our home by continuing to fight for the stabilization of the region. Hoping that the alarm for deforestation, and its effects on the rest of the world, within the international community will grow and manifest more action and proactive resolutions to the crisis. As we all do so, Rivers & Forest Expeditions will stay dedicated to providing opulent attention, gourmet and luxury services to the guests from across the world.
